MMA fighter Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva released news of his signing for GLORY kickboxing. After struggling recently in MMA, Antonio has made the change to kickboxing. In order to hit the ground running, “Bigfoot” Silva has been matched up with Rico Verhoeven, the heavyweight champion. The match will be a non-title event and will take place at the GLORY 46, held in October.
An official for GLORY announced that Antonio Silva would be fighting the heavyweight kickboxing champion via MMA Junkie and a social media post to Instagram. On October the 14th the pair will meet at the Guangzhou Gymnasium, Guangzhou, China. The Silva vs. Verhoeven fight will be the headliner of the SuperFight Series portion of the fighting event. Those interested in watching the fight can do so on UFC Fight Pass.
In the MMA, Silva has suffered five losses in a row, and has managed to win one match in his last 10. The last time Silva won a match was in May 2013. Even more concerning is that during this string of defeats, the fighter has suffered a number of knockouts. In his most recent fight, Silva suffered a second-round knockout against Vitlay Minakov, the former Bellator Champion, during their collision at the Fight Nights Global 68, which took place in June.
Antonio Silva’s opponent, on the other hand, will be going into the fight off the back of a seven fight winning streak in the kickboxing ring. Rico Verhoeven has the added edge of being GLORY’s heavyweight title holder, a position he has managed to defend in five consecutive title fights. Not only will Rico be heading to China for the event in October hoping to continue his seven fight winning streak, his last fight was won comfortably against Ismael Lazaar at the GLORY 41 held in May.
