UFC 214 is shaping up to be one heck of a fight card, especially now that UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has announced he will face Demian Maia for the title.

Woodley confirmed the news on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.

“He’s coming for the belt,” Woodley said. “Guess what? I ain’t giving it up easy.”

This makes the third title fight scheduled for UFC 214 as it joins the light-heavyweight showdown between champion Daniel Cormier and challenger Jon Jones as the main event and a women’s featherweight title fight between Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Invicta bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger.

Fans and critics have wondered if the UFC is bulking the card as an insurance policy for the main event after Jones was pulled from UFC 200 just days before his scheduled bout. He has not fought since UFC 197 which was his first fight back after a year layoff due to a hit-n-run accident.

Maia is on a seven fight win streak including wins over Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson and Carlos Condit. His recent victory came after an impressive win at UFC 211 when he topped Jorge Masvidal on the scorecards. He is currently ranked no.1 in the welterweight division.

This will be the third title defense for Woodley who came up with a draw after his first bout with Stephen Thompson, he was able to obtain the win after the rematch at UFC 209.

Woodley became welterweight champion after defeating his former teammate Robbie Lawler at UFC 201.
