Well, it was a card that looked almost too good to be true and now, a week before Bellator 179 slams into London’s Wembley Arena, fan favourite, Michael ‘Venom’ Page, has had to pull out of his scheduled bout against Derek Anderson, with a knee injury being the suspected culprit.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page currently has an unbeaten 11 fight record, but many have claimed that the flashy Freestyle Kickboxer has yet to be properly tested in the cage. Derek Anderson is a solid Lightweight contender with a 14-3 record who would have seriously tested Page and a win against him would have legitamised his run at the title to his detractors.

There has been no official statement for Michael ‘Venom’ Page, but the American, Anderson, has said, “I’m upset, as MMA fighters we are always fighting injuries. I’ve fought through stuff my whole career and it would take a whole lot for me to pull out of a fight this close to it happening. This is how I make my living, so even longer of a layoff does me no good. When he gets rebooked, it better be against me and I want it to happen as soon as possible.”

Page is understood to be distraught at missing the chance to fight on home turf in front of a partisan local crowd.

Bellator, meanwhile, has adjusted the fight card, moving Alex Lohore vs Dan Vinni from the preliminaries up to the main card as a featured fight, while Liam McGeary vs Linton Vassell becomes the co-main event. Touch wood, the rest of the card remains unchanged…
