We recieved the following press release from the Sheffield Arena earlier today, which pretty clearly says that ACB 65 will be taking place in Sheffield on July 22nd. Only problem is, the rest of the internet [including ACB’s own website] seems to think that ACB 65 is taking place in California.

Hopefully, for UK MMA fans, the event has been relocated to God’s own Country [that’s Yorkshire, for those who don’t know]. We’ll let you know more as we do.

“One of the fastest growing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotions in the world, ACB, are bringing their next UK event to the Sheffield Arena’s Steel Hall on July 22nd – the first time that the building has hosted a MMA event since opening 27 years ago.

ACB 65 will not only bring some of the biggest names in the sport to the city of Sheffield but they will also bring ACB gold as the Light-Heavyweight belt will be on the line when ACB Champion, Thiago Silva, will make the first defence of the belt against the undefeated Russian prospect Batraz Agnaev.

Thiago Silva is one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet and has a career record of 19 wins with just 5 losses. He is a well known face in the world of MMA as we have seen him got toe-to-toe against some of the biggest names in the sport. Silva will have a huge experience advantage against the challenger, an advantage that has been carved out by him facing the best-of-the-best in the cage throughout his illustrious career.

Taking on this challenge and looking to claim gold and glory in Sheffield is the highly touted Russian prospect Batraz Agnaev. Undefeated, but with only 3 professional fights experience you may, at first glance, dismiss the chances of Agnaev but it is the manner in which he won those fights that have lead him so quickly to a title shot. With 3 first round wins including a spectacular KO against one of Europes best, Max Nunes, in Manchester back in March none of this mans fights have ever reached the 4th minute. Devastating power and an aggressive style have been his trademark but this will be by far his biggest and toughest challenge.

As always ACB will deliver a world class main card of fights that will include one of Britains biggest prospects, Brendan Loughnane, going up against UFC veteran ‘Bam Bam’ Pat Healy. Brendan is coming off the back of a highlight reel finish against another former-UFC fighter, Mike Wilkinson, and he’ll be looking to do it again on July 22nd.

Thiago Tavares will debut for ACB in Sheffield and other big name fighters and former UFC stars that will also make the trip will include Leandro Silva, Niklas Backstrom and Donald Sanchez.

Alongside this main card full of global stars ACB have also promised to deliver a prelim card that will showcase the best in UK and European talent.

This will be a historic night of fights as this will be the first ACB title fight on British soil and you can witness history from just £20 per ticket (plus fees)!

Tickets for Sheffield Arena’s first ever Mixed Martial Arts event on Saturday 22nd July are on sale now, priced £22.40, £56, £84, £112 & £140 (including booking fee) and are available from the Arena web site www.sheffieldarena.co.uk or the ticket hotline on 0114 256 56 56.”
