Police say four of the seven shooting victims were listed in critical condition and taken to local hospitals. Two of those four were in full cardiac arrest when they were transported, said LAPD Cmdr. Jay Mastic.
Officials later said two people died.
It was not immediately clear if the shooting occurred near the Peck Park Car Show on N. Western Avenue just before 4 p.m., where hundreds of people had gathered, Mastic said. On the show itself.
Police say the incident started after an argument between two men on the baseball diamond at the park. They said it was not considered an active shooter situation.
Police are investigating whether more than one shooter may have opened fire.
Witnesses said hundreds of people gathered for the car show and other activities around the park. After hearing gunshots, people panicked and ran away.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said four men and three women were taken to local hospitals.
Police cordoned off the park as they investigated the shooting incident.
