ATLANTA — No. 3 Georgia held a 21-3 lead over No. 11 Oregon on Saturday in the first half of the Chick-fil-A kickoff game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. What a stellar season debut for the defending national champions. Senior quarterback Stetson Bennett IV hit Ladd McConkey from 4 yards out with 21 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a big lead at halftime. Bennett was 18-for-21 passing for 254 yards and a touchdown in two quarters.

Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh, one of the game’s most impressive players, had 7 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown to go with 80 receiving yards. The biggest play came on Georgia’s final drive of the half when McIntosh caught a pass and intercepted it for a 38-yard gain down the left sideline.

Malachi Starks, a star freshman on the Georgia defense, has made the play of the game so far by high-pointing a deep shot in one-on-one coverage over Oregon quarterback Bo Nix at the 8-yard line. Nicks went 16 of 24 for 142 yards, two interceptions and several miscues that could have been picked up had he been closer to his receiver.
