Police said the woman was abducted while jogging early Friday morning near the University of Memphis.
Eliza Fletcher, 34, was jogging around 4:20 a.m. when an “unknown person” approached her and forced her into a dark-colored SUV in the area of Central Avenue and Zach H. Curlin Street, Memphis police said. Report.
Fletcher’s personal belongings were recovered, but he was never found. At the time of abduction, she was wearing purple jogging shorts and a pink top.
Just after 4 p.m. Saturday, Memphis police announced that a “vehicle of interest” had been located and the driver was being held for questioning.
“Eliza Fletcher Not Found,” Dept Tweeted. “This is an ongoing investigation.”
The FBI and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation assisted in the search Avid runner, kindergarten teacher and mother of two.
At a news conference on Saturday, police said security video evidence of a possible abduction raised the priority level of the case as it was changed from a missing person to a kidnapping.
Fletcher is a mother of two and a teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School NBC affiliate WMC Memphis.
On Saturday, family members, who call her Lisa, released a statement read by Fletcher’s uncle, Michael Keaney.
“Lisa has touched so many hearts,” he said, noting the outpouring of support and goodwill.
“The family has met with the police and we’ve shared with them all the information we know,” Keaney said. “More than anything we want to see Lisa return home safely.”
The family has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to his safe return WMC.
